ArkEdge Space
Designs, manufactures, and operates micro-satellite constellations for maritime communications, earth observation, positioning, and deep space exploration
ArkEdge Space designs, manufactures, and operates micro-satellite constellations from its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Founded in 2018 as Space Edge Lab by Takayoshi Fukuyo, the company has developed a standardized multi-purpose 6U satellite bus that supports missions spanning maritime communications, earth observation, satellite positioning, optical communications, and deep space exploration. As of late 2025, the company has launched and operated more than 14 micro-satellites.
A key program is the VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) satellite constellation for bi-directional maritime communications and situational awareness, selected by NEDO for a project valued at up to JPY 14.7 billion. ArkEdge Space is also developing Low Earth Orbit Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (LEO-PNT) systems under contract with JAXA, and pursuing lunar navigation satellite infrastructure through JAXA's Stardust Program.
The company develops spacecraft components in-house, including attitude determination and control subsystems and low-power satellite communication systems, and offers hosted payload services. ArkEdge Space partners with government agencies and institutions in Brazil, Kyrgyzstan, Paraguay, Tajikistan, and Taiwan, and is expanding into African markets.
