OPERATING

Earth observation company collecting atmospheric, surface, and subsurface data from a cubesat constellation

ABOUT

GeoOptics, founded in 2006 and based in Pasadena, California, builds and operates small satellites to collect environmental data about the atmosphere, land, oceans, and freshwater systems. Its core technique is GNSS radio occultation, which uses signals from navigation satellites to profile atmospheric conditions including weather and precipitation. The CICERO constellation of 6U cubesats carries the Cion instrument, derived from JPL's TriG receiver developed for the COSMIC-2 mission. A follow-on constellation, CICERO-2, began launches in 2022 and is designed to add altimetry and synthetic aperture radar capabilities alongside the radio occultation payload. GeoOptics sells data to government agencies, commercial users, and researchers who need operational weather products and broader environmental monitoring.
