ProtoStar Ltd, founded in 2001 and headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda, acquired and operated geostationary satellites serving the Asia-Pacific region. The company offered satellite leasing services to direct-to-home television, broadband internet, and GSM cellular backhaul providers, with Dish TV India Limited as its anchor customer. ProtoStar filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in July 2009, after which its ProtoStar 2 satellite was acquired by SES at auction.
