Space Applications Services designs, develops, and operates systems for crewed and uncrewed spaceflight, covering spacecraft, control centres, robotics, and information systems. Founded in 1987 and still owned by its founders Richard Aked and Leif Steinicke, the company works across the full project lifecycle from mission concept studies through engineering, integration, and operations. Its IceCube service provides commercial access to the International Space Station for research payloads. The company also works in lunar exploration, health and neuroscience tools for astronauts, environmental information systems, and security applications derived from space technology. Headquartered near Brussels, it has offices in the Netherlands and Houston, and holds a strategic equity stake in the Starlab commercial space station joint venture.
