Telespazio is a joint venture owned by Leonardo (67%) and Thales Group (33%), formed in Italy in 1961 when Italcable and RAI signed its founding deed to pursue satellite telecommunications experiments. The company designs and develops space systems, manages launch services, controls satellites in orbit, and delivers Earth observation, navigation, and communications services. It operates major ground infrastructure including the Fucino Space Centre and holds roles in European programmes such as Galileo, EGNOS, Copernicus, COSMO-SkyMed, and SICRAL. Subsidiary e-GEOS handles geospatial intelligence, with partnerships covering SAR data from sources including the SAOCOM and Synspective constellations. The group operates across Europe and South America through entities including Telespazio Germany, Telespazio UK, Telespazio Brasil, GAF, and Spaceopal, serving institutional, defense, and commercial customers.
