Electric propulsion systems for satellites, built around iodine as propellant

ABOUT

ThrustMe makes in-orbit propulsion systems for satellites, with a product line that includes the NPT30-I2, JPT150, and RCS. Founded in 2017 and based near Paris, the company grew out of more than a decade of plasma physics and space propulsion research at Ecole Polytechnique and the CNRS. In 2019 and 2020 it became the first company to demonstrate iodine-fueled electric propulsion in orbit, a milestone the industry had pursued for roughly 60 years. Using iodine instead of conventional propellants allows for more compact, lower-cost thruster designs suited to satellite constellations and rideshare missions. ThrustMe also produces scientific instruments for plasma diagnostics, including the LTA100 argon plasma source, the Matched Dipole Probe, and the Magnetic Ion Energy Analyser.
