XTAR

Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Leesburg, Virginia, XTAR, LLC is a US-based commercial satellite operator that provides military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) capacity and services in X-, mil-Ka, and UHF-frequency bands via satellites operated by Hisdesat for the Government of Spain. It was the first commercial operator to provide services to government end-users on NATO Allied MILSATCOM assets in the X-band frequency range reserved for government and military use. In 2024, XTAR expanded its offerings to include all-weather, high-resolution X-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) earth observation services for the US Department of Defense, NATO Allies, and partner nations. The company is majority-owned by Loral Space & Communications, with Hisdesat holding a minority share.
