Charter Space develops mission management software and operates an insurance brokerage for the satellite industry. The company's platform, Ubik, captures manufacturing and test data during spacecraft development, serving as a unified interface for engineering teams, program managers, and external stakeholders. This data feeds an AI-powered underwriting interface connected to six major space insurance carriers, enabling faster and more affordable risk evaluation. In February 2026, Charter launched the Charter Interplanetary Risk Corporation (CIRC), a nationally-licensed brokerage that places pre-launch, launch, and on-orbit insurance policies for satellite operators. CIRC also offers standard commercial coverage including general liability, cyber liability, and directors and officers insurance. Founded in 2021 and backed by Techstars, Charter acquired Y Combinator-backed Plover Parametrics in 2025 to gain direct policy placement capabilities. The company estimates that approximately 97% of active satellites fly uninsured, and aims to expand coverage across the industry to unlock alternative capital sources for space companies.
