Building a 600-satellite LEO optical mesh network called the Outernet for global low-latency B2B and government
Rivada Space Networks GmbH, founded in 2022 and headquartered in Munich, is developing the Outernet — a planned 600-satellite low-earth-orbit network using inter-satellite laser links, onboard processing, and routing to create a pole-to-pole optical mesh. The network is designed to keep data in space from origin to destination, targeting end-to-end latencies lower than terrestrial fiber over long distances. It is aimed at B2B customers and governments across telecom, enterprise, maritime, energy, and defense markets, with partners including Q-KON, CMA Technology, and Cisco.
