Description

Vast develops and operates Haven-1, a single-module commercial space station scheduled for launch in May 2026 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9. Haven-1 accommodates four crew members for approximately 30-day missions and features a human-centric interior design with a 1.1-meter observation window. The station integrates SpaceX Dragon spacecraft for crew transport and life support, and incorporates Starlink laser communication terminals for high-speed connectivity. Vast manufactures primary structures, life support systems, and avionics at its Long Beach, California facility, and conducts environmental testing at NASA's Glenn Research Center under a five-year Space Act Agreement.

Vast is developing Haven-2, a larger modular successor to the International Space Station comprising four modules planned for launch between 2028 and 2030, as part of its bid for NASA's Commercial LEO Destination contract. The company acquired Launcher in 2023, adding orbital transfer vehicle and liquid rocket engine capabilities. Haven-1 and Haven-2 are designed to demonstrate centrifugal artificial gravity through rotation. Vast operates as a privately held company and has been awarded a Private Astronaut Mission agreement with NASA to send a crew to the International Space Station in 2027. The company partners with SpaceX as its exclusive launch provider and collaborates with Redwire Space and Yuri for payload research capabilities.
