Operates a high-revisit Earth observation constellation and AI-powered Spectra platform for real-time geospatial intelligence and automated monitoring
BlackSky operates a proprietary constellation of high-revisit, very-high-resolution Earth observation satellites in low Earth orbit, paired with the Spectra AI analytics platform for real-time geospatial intelligence. The Gen-2 constellation delivers sub-meter resolution imagery, while the Gen-3 constellation, which entered commercial operations in 2025, provides 35-centimeter resolution with Short-Wavelength Infrared sensors capable of imaging through smoke and haze. The Spectra platform automates satellite tasking, object detection, and change monitoring, delivering imagery to customers within 90 minutes of a request on average.
BlackSky achieved full vertical integration in November 2024 after acquiring the remaining 50% stake in LeoStella, its satellite manufacturing subsidiary in Tukwila, Washington. The company designs and builds its satellites in-house, enabling rapid production cycles. BlackSky serves defense and intelligence agencies worldwide, holding contracts with the National Reconnaissance Office, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and the U.S. Space Force Global Data Marketplace. The company reported record FY2025 revenue of $107 million and a backlog of $345 million. BlackSky trades on the NYSE under the ticker BKSY.
