Builds geospatial data analytics platforms that process satellite imagery at scale for commodity forecasting, resource exploration, and defense intelligence.

About

Descartes Labs develops cloud-based geospatial analytics platforms that process petabyte-scale satellite imagery and remote sensing data for enterprise and government customers. Founded in 2014 as a spinoff from Los Alamos National Laboratory, the company built a data refinery capable of ingesting imagery from multiple satellite constellations and applying machine learning models to extract actionable intelligence. Core verticals include commodity sourcing and agricultural forecasting, mineral exploration and mining operations, insurance and environmental risk assessment, and defense and intelligence applications. Commercial products include Marigold for mining and energy analytics, Iris for geospatial visualization, and Ascend for commodity intelligence. The government subsidiary, Descartes Labs Government (DLG), provides mission-ready solutions including Retina and Wayfinder for U.S. defense and intelligence agencies. In October 2024, Descartes Labs was acquired by EarthDaily Analytics, a vertically integrated Earth observation company building a dedicated satellite constellation. The acquisition integrates Descartes Labs' analytics capabilities with EarthDaily's upstream imagery pipeline. The company maintains offices in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and New York City.
