Umbra
Designs, builds, and operates SAR satellite constellations delivering sub-meter Earth imagery and flight-proven spacecraft hardware
Umbra designs, builds, and operates a constellation of synthetic aperture radar satellites delivering high-resolution Earth observation data in all weather conditions. Founded in 2015, the company uses patented center-fed parabolic mesh reflector antennas that expand to approximately 16 square meters in orbit. The constellation supports multiple imaging modes with resolution down to 25 centimeters, tasked through the Canopy web platform and API.
The company operates three business units: Remote Sensing for SAR data products, Mission Solutions for custom satellite systems for defense customers, and Space Systems selling flight-proven spacecraft hardware including battery modules, solar arrays, power systems, and reaction wheels. Umbra serves the NRO, U.S. Space Force, and Space Development Agency. Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, with manufacturing in Santa Barbara, California.
