AST SpaceMobile operates a space-based cellular broadband network that connects directly to unmodified consumer smartphones using phased-array antennas in low Earth orbit. The company's BlueBird satellites function as orbiting cell towers utilizing existing mobile operator spectrum, eliminating the need for hardware changes to devices or terrestrial infrastructure.
