Telesat is a Canadian satellite communications operator founded in 1969, one of the longest-operating commercial satellite companies in the world. The company operates a fleet of thirteen geostationary satellites under the Anik, Nimiq, and Telstar families, providing C-band, Ku-band, and Ka-band capacity for broadband, wireless backhaul, video distribution, and government connectivity across the Americas, Atlantic, and Asia-Pacific regions.
Telesat is developing Telesat Lightspeed, a low Earth orbit constellation designed to deliver enterprise-class broadband with fiber-like speeds, ultra-low latency, and MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet certification. MDA Space is the prime manufacturer, with SpaceX contracted for fourteen launches beginning in mid-2026. The network targets telecom operators, government agencies, maritime fleets, and aviation customers.
In December 2025, Telesat partnered with the Government of Canada and MDA Space on a multibillion-dollar military satellite communications contract. The company trades on NASDAQ and TSX under the symbol TSAT and is headquartered in Ottawa.
