Unseenlabs
Operates a nanosatellite constellation for space-based radio frequency detection, geolocation, and characterization of maritime vessel emissions
Unseenlabs operates a constellation of 19 nanosatellites that detect, geolocate, and characterize radio frequency emissions from vessels at sea. Founded in 2015 in Rennes, France, the company developed a proprietary mono-satellite RF payload capable of intercepting signals across multiple frequency bands in a single orbital pass, covering areas of approximately 300,000 square kilometers per collection. The system identifies cooperative and non-cooperative vessels, including dark ships that disable or manipulate their AIS transponders.
The company delivers RF geospatial intelligence as a data-as-a-service product, providing subscription-based access to geolocation coordinates, timestamps, and RF technical parameters for each detected emitter. Customers include government defense and civil agencies, marine insurers, offshore facility operators, fisheries management organizations, and NGOs. Unseenlabs is a European Space Agency Copernicus Contributing Mission and integrates its RF data with synthetic aperture radar and optical imagery through tip-and-cue workflows.
The company has raised over €113 million in funding and maintains offices in Rennes and Singapore. A next-generation constellation, Generation NexT, is planned to extend RF detection capabilities to land and space domains.
